Rimini Ruffle Tote - Two Sizes - PDF Sewing Pattern
I'm so excited to be able to share this awesome, rufflelicious tote pattern! The Rimini Ruffle Tote is such a romantic design with the ruffles, but with the right fabric/vinyl, it can be super cool and edgy! This is a large tote that comes in two sizes, both with plenty of room. Perfect for a day on the beach or on the town.
It's fully lined, and it has a generous zipper pocket and a pretty slip pocket inside. It has a sturdy bottom which makes it able to hold its shape very nicely, even when fully packed. This pattern comes with both inch and centimeter measurements.
BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY
This is a pattern for the intermediate-advanced bag maker.
MEASUREMENTS
Finished size tall: ~17” (45cm) high, ~12” (30cm) wide at the bottom, ~15” (38cm) wide at the top and ~4” (10cm) deep.
Finished size regular: ~14” (35cm) high, ~12” (30cm) wide at the bottom, ~15” (38cm) wide at the top and ~4” (10cm) deep.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
Fabric:
1 yard (1m) - Exterior: 1 ⅔ yard (1.5m) is needed if you want your straps in one piece if your fabric isn’t that wide. Pliable vinyl, faux leather, cork or other similar where edges can be left raw, and that is soft enough to ruffle. Or a cotton fabric if you’d like a no raw edges version. But keep a piece of vinyl on hand for the lining pocket details.
1 yard (90cm) - Lining: Cotton fabric.
Interfacing:
20” x 35” (50x90cm) - Decovil Light or foam interfacing: Or Vildona Light. You can substitute a fusible foam interfacing if you have a heavy duty machine that doesn’t mind many layers or if you’re working with a cotton fabric exterior - use a fusible foam interfacing.
1 yard (90cm) - Woven fusible interfacing: Vilene G700 woven fusible, Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex or similar for all cotton lining fabric. If you have a cotton exterior, you need enough of this interfacing to interface all exterior pieces too.
12” x 5” (20x10cm) - Heavy interfacing: Decovil Heavy, Pellon Peltex 71, Fast 2 Fuse Heavy or similar for the bottom.
Notions:
11” (28cm) - Zipper: Or longer, for zipper pocket in lining, can be #3 or #5 as per your preference.
5 - Bag feet: Optional but gives a nice look.
1 - Magnetic snap: Optional if you want a closure for your tote.
3 ¾ yards (3.5m) Strong string: String used to gather your ruffles. Needs to be strong enough to pull to ruffle without breaking.
Non-permanent marker: For making temporary marks, that can be removed with water, heat or similar.
Double sided tape.
100/16 sturdy sewing machine needle: Preferably a topstitch kind.
Fabric glue.
Sewing machine that can do a zigzag stitch.
Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler.
Fabric clips.
