Stockholm Bag - PDF Sewing Pattern
This bag pattern came to be as I needed a bag to use as carry on when flying to Stockholm, and as it's for use in Stockholm, it had to be big enough to fit both my laptop, an extra sweater and everything else I need while travelling or for a full day on the town. This bag is perfect for both!
This stylish, no fuss design with a simple big exterior pocket and a zippered pocket at the back is perfect for the advanced beginner all the way up to the advanced bagmaker who potentially could spice it up in numerous ways! It has a zippered pocket in the lining and some open lining pockets for cell phones and other little things. I hope you'll have as much fun making your bag as I did and that you'll get just as much use out of yours as I'm getting from mine! This pattern comes with both inch and centimeter measurements.
BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY
This is a good pattern for the intermediate bag maker.
Finished bag: ~12" (30cm) high and ~18" (20cm) wide at the top and 5" (13cm) deep at the base.
1 Yard (90cm) - Exterior fabric: Faux leather, vinyl, waxed tablecloth, cotton or canvas (the black faux leather).
2⁄3 Yard (65cm) - Contrast fabric: Cotton (the blue-green lantern print).
2⁄3 Yard (65cm) - Lining fabric: Cotton (the turquoise solid inside the bag).
8” x 6 1⁄2” (20x17cm) - Scrap cotton fabric: Matching the exterior fabric if using anything but cotton for the exterior.
1.6 Yards (150cm) - Heavy weight interfacing: Of 20” width such as Fast 2 Fuse Heavy, Pellon 71F Peltex or a foam stabilizer like Soft and Stable for a softer, less stable bag.
1 Yard (90cm) - Lightweight interfacing: Such as Vilene G700 woven fusible or Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex.
(2 x 29” (5x73cm) - Fusible fleece: such as Pellon Fusible Thermolam or other fusible interfacing with a little loft and stability for handles - only needed if using cotton or other thin fabric for your exterior. Omit this if using pre-made handles or a sturdy exterior fabric.)
1 - 8” (20cm) Zipper: For exterior pocket.
1 - 10” (25cm) Zipper: For the lining pocket.
4 - Bag feet: If desired (protects the bottom and gives a professional look).
1 - Magnetic snap: If you want a closure for your bag.
1 - Bag bottom: If desired (I didn’t use one).
Rotary cutter, cutting mat & ruler.
