Hi, I'm Maria! 💕

I'm a Swedish bag pattern designer nowadays living in the sun, and I'm lucky enough to have turned something I absolutely love into my job.

I create modern PDF bag sewing patterns with clever construction, detailed instructions and lots of step-by-step photos. My goal has always been to make bag making feel approachable and, most importantly, fun - whether you're sewing your very first bag or you've already made more than you have places to put them. (I may know something about that last problem... 😄)

How Pink Pony Design began

Pink Pony Design wasn't really planned - it grew out of me falling completely in love with sewing.

I started quilting and sewing for fun about 20 years ago and created my blog as a place to keep track of what I made, what went wrong and what I learned along the way. Before long, bag making had completely taken over.

There was just one problem: I often found the bag patterns I tried unnecessarily complicated, with too little explanation for me to actually enjoy sewing them. So, being me, I started designing my own instead. 😄

That eventually led to creating my first proper sewing pattern, and in 2015 - with a great deal of encouragement from my husband Erik - Pink Pony Design became my business.

I've been designing bags ever since, but the idea behind my patterns has never really changed:

Sewing a bag should be just as enjoyable as using it afterwards.

Designed to make sewing feel doable

When I design a pattern, I'm not only thinking about what the finished bag will look like. I'm thinking just as much about how you're going to get there.

I love clever construction, but I don't believe clever has to mean complicated. I spend a slightly ridiculous amount of time trying different ways of putting a bag together, looking for methods that make each step as logical and enjoyable as possible.

That's also why my patterns contain lots of step-by-step photos and detailed instructions. I never want you to be halfway through a bag wondering what on earth I meant. 😄

Every pattern is tested by a wonderful group of bag makers before release, and their feedback is an incredibly important part of the process. If something can be clearer, easier or simply nicer to sew, I want to know.

I want my patterns to feel like I'm right there sewing the bag with you.

That's really what Pink Pony Design is all about. ❤️

A little more about me

Pink Pony Design may be my business, but it is also very much a reflection of me. I love colour, clever little details and anything that makes everyday life just a bit prettier.

I'm Swedish, but these days I live in sunny Portugal with my husband Erik and a frankly unreasonable number of furry assistants. 😄 My sewing room is rarely as tidy as it looks in photographs, there's usually at least one cat somewhere it shouldn't be, and I have made considerably more bags than any one human being could reasonably need.

When I'm not designing, sewing or answering bag-making questions, you'll most likely find me enjoying the Portuguese sunshine, spending time with Erik and our animals - or thinking about the next bag I want to make. Because apparently I don't know how to switch that part of my brain off. 😂

Pink Pony Design is a one-woman business, and I'm incredibly grateful that every pattern you buy allows me to keep doing something I genuinely love. ❤️
