Singapore Sling Bag - PDF Sewing Pattern

The Singapore Sling Bag is a stylish, compact crossbody bag designed to carry your everyday essentials without feeling bulky. It's a wonderful everyday bag when you want something smaller and lightweight, while still having plenty of room for the things you actually need.

The flap gives the Singapore its distinctive look, while the interior includes a discreetly hidden zipper pocket and slip pockets to keep smaller essentials organised and easy to find. The zipper pocket is constructed using a method that avoids the traditional rectangular zipper opening, making it easier to achieve a neat, even finish.

The gusset-free construction keeps the bag relatively quick and straightforward to sew, making the Singapore a satisfying project without sacrificing the polished, structured look.

The PDF sewing pattern includes both inch and centimeter measurements, detailed step-by-step instructions and lots of photos to guide you through the construction. A full YouTube video tutorial is also available if you prefer to sew along with me.

SKILL LEVEL

Intermediate

The Singapore Sling Bag is suitable for an intermediate bag maker or a confident beginner who is comfortable with basic bag-making techniques. The gusset-free construction makes it relatively straightforward to assemble, while the zipper pocket, flap, hardware and multiple layers add a few techniques that may be new to a beginner.

The pattern includes detailed step-by-step instructions and photos to guide you through the entire construction.

FINISHED SIZE

Approximately 6” (16cm) high x 9” (23cm) wide and 2 ½” (6.5cm) deep at the base.

FABRIC & SUPPLIES

Fabric:

Exterior - 18” x 22” (45x55cm): 
Cotton, vinyl, faux leather or cork fabric (if you want a long crossbody strap, additional fabric might be required).

Decor - 18” x 22” (45x55cm):
Cotton fabric (other fabrics can be used but please consider the bulk when sewing, not all domestic machines will be able to handle sewing the layers with fabric thicker than cotton).

Lining - 18” x 22” (45x55cm):
Cotton fabric or your preferred lining fabric.

Interfacing & Stabiliser

Fusible Foam stabiliser - 15 x 18” (38x46cm):
Pellon fusible flex foam or similar fusible foam stabiliser. If using non-fusible foam, you can either quilt the exterior fabric directly to the foam or attach it using a lightweight fusible web such as HeatnBond Lite or Vliesofix Bondaweb.

Woven fusible interfacing - 0.8 yards (75cm):
Fusible interfacing for lining and cotton fabrics like Vilene G700 woven fusible or Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex. 0.5 yards (45cm) only is needed if working with vinyl or similar sturdier fabric for exterior.

Heavy interfacing - 2 x 10” (5x25cm):
Pellon Peltex 71, Fast 2 Fuse heavy or similar for a sturdy bottom.

Hardware & Notions

 #3 Zipper - 8” (20cm): Should match the lining fabric and not have a big/bulky pull.

Turn lock or purse twist lock - 1. 

½” (1.25cm) wide D-rings - 2.

½” (1.25cm) wide Swivel snap hooks - 2.

Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler.

Double sided tape or fabric glue.

Fabric clips.
