The Denver Double Zip Bag is a practical, organised crossbody bag with two fully lined zippered compartments - and the pattern includes two different sizes so you can choose the perfect Denver for how you like to carry your essentials.
The small Denver is perfect when you want a compact bag with room for your phone, cards, keys, money and a few smaller essentials, while the larger size gives you extra space for everyday use.
Inside the main compartment you'll find plenty of built-in organisation, including a three-card holder, a lip balm pocket, a money slip pocket and a larger slip pocket that can be subdivided to suit what you carry. The second zippered compartment gives you even more room while keeping everything securely tucked away.
The Denver is a surprisingly quick and fun bag to sew - and speaking from experience, there's a very real risk that one Denver turns into several. 😂❤️ The PDF sewing pattern includes both inch and centimeter measurements, detailed step-by-step instructions and lots of photos to guide you through the construction. Intermediate
The Denver Double Zip Bag is best suited to an intermediate bag maker or a confident beginner who is comfortable with basic bag-making techniques. You'll be installing two zippers, creating fully lined zippered compartments and sewing several smaller organisational pockets, but the construction is straightforward and broken down into manageable steps.
The pattern includes detailed step-by-step instructions and photos to guide you through the entire construction.
FINISHED SIZE
Small: Approximately 9” (23cm) wide, 5 ½” (14cm) high and 1 ½” (4cm) deep at the bottom.
Large: Approximately 10 ½” (27cm) wide, 7 ½” (19cm) high and 1 ½” (4cm) deep at the bottom.
FABRIC & SUPPLIES
Fabric:
Exterior Fabric - 18” x 22” (45x55cm):
Fabric for exterior, cotton, cork, faux leather, vinyl (if using directional fabric, or fabric with a print you wish to center - additional fabric is required).
Lining Fabric - ½ yard (45cm):
Cotton fabric or your preferred lining fabric.
14” (35cm) x WOF is enough if making the small bag.
Strap Fabric - 2” x 55” (5x140cm):
A scrap of contrast fabric (the solid strap). Add 3” (7.5cm) to the length for the D-ring tabs if you want them to match the strap. If crossbody or longer strap is desired, increase amount as needed.
Interfacing/stabiliser:
Medium fusible stabiliser - 18” x 22” (45x55cm):
The best choice will depend on your exterior fabric and how structured you'd like your finished bag to be:
Fast2Fuse Medium is highly recommended when working with quilting cotton or other lightweight exterior fabrics.
Decovil I Light works beautifully with sturdier fabrics such as home decor weight fabric or lighter vinyls.
Pellon Fusible Thermolam Plus is a good choice if you prefer a softer, more flexible bag.
Decovil I Heavy gives a beautifully firm, structured result when using cotton for the exterior.
If you're making the small Denver in a heavy vinyl or very sturdy faux leather, you may be able to leave out this interfacing entirely to avoid unnecessary bulk.
Woven fusible interfacing - 0.8 Yards (75cm):
Woven fusible interfacing for lining, like Vilene G700 woven fusible or Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex or similar.
Hardware/notions:
D-rings ½” (1.25cm) wide - 2:
Instructions for using other size D-rings are in the pattern.
Swivel snap hooks ½” (1.25cm) wide - 2:
Instructions for using other size snap hooks are in the pattern.
#3 zippers 10” (25cm) - 2:
If making the small bag, 9” (23cm) long zippers are enough. #5 zippers can be used if desired.
Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler.
Wonder clips and double sided quilting tape is recommended.
