Denver Double Zip Bag - Two Sizes
This bag comes in two sizes, the small bag is perfect for a night on the town, when you want to have room for your phone, cards, money, keys, maybe a bit of makeup and some small bits and pieces. The larger can be used as a more day to day purse. It's such a quick and fun bag to sew, you'll probably just like me, not only make one once you get started!
This bag has two big zippered compartments, both fully lined. The main compartment also has a card holder for 3 cards, room for a lip balm and money slip pocket and a larger slip pocket that can be subdivided. The pockets can be customized to fit your needs.
This pattern comes with both inch and centimeter measurements.
BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY
This is an excellent pattern for the intermediate bagmaker, assuming basic sewing skills and preferably having installed a zipper.
Finished size - Small Bag: ~ 9” (23cm) wide, 5 ½” (14cm) high and 1 ½” (4cm) deep at the bottom.
Finished size - Large Bag: ~ 10 ½” (27cm) wide, 7 ½” (19cm) high and 1 ½” (4cm) deep at the bottom.
18” x 22” (45x55cm) - Exterior Fabric: Fabric for exterior, cotton, cork, faux leather, vinyl (if using directional fabric, or fabric with a print you wish to center - additional fabric is required).
½ yard (45cm) - Lining Fabric: Cotton fabric for lining. 14” (35cm) x WOF is enough if making the small bag.
2” x 55” (5x140cm) - Strap Fabric: A scrap of contrast fabric (the solid strap). Add 3” (7.5cm) to the length for the D-ring tabs if you want them to match the strap. If crossbody or longer strap is desired, increase amount as needed.
18” x 22” (45x55cm) Medium fusible interfacing: For the exterior, Fast 2 Fuse Medium (highly recommended when working in cotton fabric), Decovil 1 Light (great for sturdier fabrics like home dec weight or lighter vinyls) or Pellon Fusible Thermolam Plus for a softer, more flexible/bendable bag. You might want to exclude this interfacing if using a heavy vinyl or a very sturdy faux leather for the small bag. Decovil Heavy is beautiful when using cotton fabric for the exterior.
0.8 Yards (75cm) - Thin interfacing: Fusible interfacing for lining, like Vilene G700 woven fusible or Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex or similar.
2 - ½” (1.25cm) wide D-rings: Instructions for using other size D-rings are in the pattern.
2 - ½” (1.25cm) wide Swivel snap hooks: Instructions for using other size snap hooks are in the pattern.
2 - 10” (25cm) #3 zippers (or longer): If making the small bag, 9” (23cm) long zippers are enough. Sturdier zippers can be used if desired.
Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler.
Wonder clips and double sided quilting tape is recommended.
